Book One: Girl Missing, Girl Lost
    Jake is asked by a famous actor, Julia Grant, for help because Summer, Grant’s sister, is missing. Before Jake can even get started on a search for the sister, however, the actor herself is threatened by cowboys from Wyoming. One says the characters Julia play in her  movies, especially the one currently in production, are  “too woke.”

    Jake’s effort to find Summer is interrupted by an attempted kidnaping of Julia Grant at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe. Julia escapes and Jake finds her a safer place to stay, and better protection, so he can concentrate on finding the missing sister.

    His search takes him to a residential drug addiction treatment center near Arroyo Hondo, in northern New Mexico, where he believes the sister might be receiving treatment. But in the process he discovers an unusual connection between the drug treatment center and a fertility clinic in Albuquerque offering in vitro fertilization.
